An Interview with Antionette Hippe (G)

About Antionette

Antoinette Hippe is one of the most prolific and talented henna artists in the henna art community. Antoinette hails from the state of Washington, and she owns her own henna art studio in Seattle called Magic Magpie Studio. You can also find her on Facebook at Magic Magpie Studio, Henna Art by Antoinette. Antoinette’s Facebook is a wonderful place to see what events she’s attending, what work she’s doing, and what projects she’s planning to do next. If you find yourself in Seattle, Antoinette’s shop is a must see venue. You can take a video tour with Antoinette by playing the video below.

How I met Antionette

I met Antoinette when I was very new to the henna community. She frequents a Facebook group that many other PPD free henna artists utilize to exchange ideas, support, and educate one another. Her vivacious energy and kind spirit immediately drew me to her, and I see her, as well as Victoria Welch, as a mentor to this day. It’s no surprise that Antoinette made the top of my “to interview” list for this blog. You can see the video interview of Antoinette below.

Some key issues Antionette touches on

  • The henna art world is largely cooperative
  • Henna artists see themselves as just that – artists.  Very few ever think of themselves as a festival business owners
  • Mentorships and fellowships are the ways henna artists typically learn how to do henna

Other henna artists Antionette mentions

Check back in another two weeks to see an interview with another spectacular henna artist based out of Minnesota, Victoria Welch!
